Toelf Exercise 1

The lecture of the professor establishes other valid theories related with the extinction of the dinosaurs in the Cretaceous-Tertiary period. Although, she agrees that the 'impact-theory' is the most accepted by the scientific community. But, There are other such relevant theories to explain alternatives diffent to the massive extinction.

The first one is the natural evolution of species. This theory extent that the dinosaurs extinct because they could not adapt them to new condition of environment. In fact this point, expresses a situation where some of these animals were already extinct when the asteroid hit the earth. In opposition to the text that said that most of these animals extinct in a massive event.

This theory gains more support, when the scientists understand that the birds are probable evolve from carnivore dinosaurs. The birds adapt to the new conditions as many other animal like mammals and reptiles. This point is the most contradictory to the massive extinction one. Evolution from dinosaurs to birds is the consequence of millions of years of changes like volcanoes eruptions, climate change and other situations that are common in life evolution.

Finally, the professor agrees the text, but also presents other interesting ideas that puts some of the strong arguments of the impact theory in doubt an massive extinction. 

How can you balance the desire to write interesting, meaningful ideas with the need to be grammatically correct? How important should grammar be?

It is a topic that really matters. As soon as you start a lecture, you can identify grammar problems even if you don’t know anything about grammar. In fact, the reading became laborious. It is not an issue of styling or elegance; It refers to the ability of the writer to convey an idea in a clear and easy way to the reader. There are another level of writers, those whose grammar is almost an art, I am not talking about them, I am talking about common people like me, people that have a lot of things to learn to make our writings more understandable, more interesting.

Some hard difficulties to find the correct words

After I wrote the three versions of the paragraph I found some hard difficulties to  find the correct words to express the ideas with another tone. In fact, I understood that my vocabulary is mainly neutral and much reduced to change the sensations and feeling into the reader mind. I had to use the dictionary all the time to find better words to covey differently. The second problem I had was not to change the meaning of the original text, I am not sure if I did or not in the Humorous and sad text.

Original writing

Today movie is “Baby Driver”, It is the story about a young adult”baby”, that also is very good driver. He spend his time driving cars and listening music with earphones at the level that he is learned to read the people lips because he never takes off his earphones. This guy has a great heart,  but not really good friends. Someday, as he was a good driver, a well-known drug dealer and bank robber forced Baby to dive in an assault, the theft was successful grateful to Baby, after that the drug dealer used that boy to help them in many other illegal activities. However, the driver saw his activity as a way to save money to get married with his dream girl, a waitress who worked in a restaurant on the side of a state highway.

The movie argument is very difficult to support because Baby became a criminal, no matter what efforts the writer made to show his as a good boy. Along the movie there were several scenes where Baby performs good actions; I suppose to create the idea into the mind  viewer that the protagonist doesn’t deserve a punishment.

Humorous and informal

This is the story about a very nice guy who came into the hands of a bad boy. A drugs dealer who saw in to “Baby”, it is the alias of the protagonist, a great driver to do his bank assaults and scape with the loot. That guy “Baby” is an incredible driver, the movie is full of scenes where they can extremely scape form the police doing a lot of spectacular scape actions. Baby never takes off their earphones so the movie also has situations where he drives listening hard music. As I said, baby was a good boy, we wanted to get married with a beautiful waitress he known at a restaurant next to a highway.

The story is not believable but funny, nobody drives like him. But also, in deep he was not really a good boy.

Sad

Three tones to describe a library

Objective

This is my library. It is located just next to end of the stairs at the second floor. It is an open space of 20 square meters where I have two desks with laptop computers, a sofa and huge furniture full of books on one of the walls of the room. In the middle of the space there is a red carpet which covers more than the half of the space. The room has a view to a big window where it is possible to see the 88 street, some trees and other yellow houses of this quiet neighborhood. The furniture has more than 500 books mainly related with computers programming and project management.

Excited

This is my workplace, my library!.  It is located next to my room, in an open well-lighted space of 20 square meters of inspiration perfect to make shine ideas. I have there a desk with a computer where happened my education plans, as sofa to dream an incredible collection of 500 books to light up my mind with others impressions.  In the middle of the space there is a red carpet which covers more than the half of the space, it helps me to feel myself in a prolonged cuddle. The room has a view to the 88 street, some trees and other yellow houses of this quiet neighborhood.

Frustrated

This is my library, the place where I try to do my shores. It is located next to my room where I usually try to stay more of the time. It is an open stressful space of 20 square meters where I have two desks with laptop computers, a sofa and huge furniture full of non-read books remembering what I have to do in my next months. In the middle of the space there is a red carpet which covers more than the half of the space, it helps me to remember how to feel cuddle. The room has a view to a big window where it is possible to see the 88 street, some leafless trees and other pale houses of the excessive quiet neighborhood.

IT is changing all the rules

Undoubtedly Information’s technologies are the industrial sector that is changing all the rules of how doing business in the 21^st Century. Certainly, almost every human activity has been impacted by the increasing computing capabilities to process information. Though we cannot ignore the influential of other industries into the reconfiguration of the future, It is undeniable that IT is affecting all other industries as no other. Form worksheet to Artificial Intelligence all these stuffs has millions of applications in every human activity related with business.  It is also difficult to establish whether this impact is positive or negative because it depends on the using of technology. But It is true that the growth of the computers using will continue changing the rules for long time, and it is also true that the dependency heightening  of our lives in computers would change even our self-vision of the reality.   

Journal, Day 1. How to transform a simple idea into a strong argument?

I used to write for business purposes, but not exclusively. In my job I must write an average of 30 mails per day and a couple of business documents related with the software products that we build. Some of these mails and documents are written in English, of course I feel more confident writing in my first language, but nowadays most of our communications are English.

As I said, not all my writings are for business. I also write for personal reasons, it is a kind of internal dialog, I record on paper my dreams, my fairs, my dissertations, and sometimes love letters. I especially enjoyed my time when I write. Most of my writing are just for me.

Finally, I write much better in Spanish than in English. I Know that I have many things to learn and improve, but the most important for me at this time is vocabulary and structures to transform a simple idea into a strong argument thought the property use of connectors.
